Dachen Bao is a visual artist, filmmaker and researcher based in Rotterdam (NL) and Chongqing (CN).
Through a practice of archival research, moving images and text, Bao explores the complexity of local realities and the ever-shifting structural relationship with technologies, geopolitics, history, and representation. His work focuses on collective memories and individual embodied encounters in the context of grand narratives and ideologies, by overlapping documentary, fiction and different narrative perspectives and methods.
He is a co-founder of the self-organized CWI 重工所, a research-based collective operating since 2018.
